The Italian Riviera, known also as “Riviera of the Flowers” or “Riviera of the Palms”, is a strip of land washed by the Ligurian Sea; it is characterised by an indented sunny coast decorated by palms, by maritime villages with their sailors’ ancient houses crowded together and separated by narrow streets called “carruggi”. Climbing up to the hinterland through an extent of silver olive trees, passing across the small villages on the top of the hills and through the deep green woods of the Ligurian Apennines, you reach the fertile countryside of South Piedmont, best known as “Langhe” and “Monferrato”. The “Langhe” are formed by a group of hills, with sharp ridges and deep parallel valleys crossed by rivers that are situated between the Tanaro and the Bormida rivers and the Ligurian Apennine. They are from 350 to 800 metres high.

The “Langhe” are famed for, and characterised by, precious products such as wine, mushrooms, truffles, hazelnuts and oeno-gastronomic products in general. Each valley has got its own customs and traditions, even different dialects: a small world of never-ending surprises that can be discovered living in touch with people and with nature.

The Monferrato is a land rich in history, situated in the heart of Piedmont between the Turin hills and the Po River in the North, and the Ligurian Apennine in the South. Northwards it is characterised by mild and rounded hills with an average altitude of 350 metres, while southwards the hills are higher and the landscape rougher. Everywhere you will see vineyards that provide a plentiful production of many varieties of vintage wines, well-known around the world (Barbera, Grignolino, Brachetto d’ Acqui, Moscato, Dolcetto).
